Position Summary
Audubon’s grassroots – our chapter members, online advocates, and community activists – are the key to our ability to influence decision makers on the biggest conservation challenges of today. Audubon’s Conservation Organizer will strengthen and broaden our political power by coordinating our climate advocacy work in the region, both growing and engaging our grassroots network. We are looking for an energetic, adaptable, relationship-oriented, and results-driven team player who effectively engages volunteers, partners and nontraditional allies to achieve climate solutions. T his position will report to the Campaign Coordinator .
Essential Functions
Engaging with partners and allies based on the climate campaign plan. That might look like:
• Engage with Audubon chapters within the region and Audubon Florida’s Regional Conservation Committees.
• Enlist students from local universities.
• Collaborate with community leaders and civic and religious organizations.
• Identify and creating partnerships with business leaders in the community, including local Chambers of Commerce, corporations, and other nontraditional allies on climate change issues.
• Represent Audubon Florida at outreach events and functions (virtual or in-person).
Mobilizing the grassroots network to advocate for climate solutions:
• Assist with developing campaign materials to assist engagement of Audubon chapters and new partners - fact sheets, presentations, talking points, among others.
• Assist with cultivating coverage in traditional and new media.
• Communicate regularly with our networks via email and in person.
• Conduct training workshops and events on relevant issues and skills.
• Coordinate with the State Field Coordinator to organize in-district meetings and events between advocates and elected officials.
• Expand our toolkit of local government actions on climate change and organizing grassroots to advocate for these actions.
• Participate in regional and local government climate initiatives.
Expanding the impact of the climate campaign:
• Track campaign activity and outcomes on a weekly basis.
• Brainstorm ways to expand our network of partners in line with the program’s long-term goals.
• Identify and implement relevant projects and opportunities in which the network may engage.
Qualifications and Experience
• 2-3 years issue organizing experience, including volunteer management, leading community events and training required.
• Expertise knowledge of the Orlando/Tampa Bay area.
• Excellent leadership, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate volunteers and partners essential.
• Experience working with diverse constituencies, including bipartisan coalitions and communities of color.
• A self-starter, one who is motivated, able to work in a decentralized work environment with minimal supervision, and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent time management skills, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines and goals.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to respond quickly and effectively to unforeseen challenges.
• Effective listening, probing, and assessment skills.
• Tech-savvy, with proficiency in social media and MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to build consensus among a wide range of individuals. Comfort with presenting and engaging in public speaking events necessary.
• Willingness to travel across state, as well as working evenings and weekends as the job responsibilities demands.
• Strong commitment to conservation, climate solutions and to the mission of the National Audubon Society is a must.
