**Full time permanent role**
As Medical Science Liaison (MSL): Rare Diseases, you will maintain expert subject matter knowledge in relevant therapeutic areas and have the ability to successfully execute medical strategies. You will enjoy customer facing medical affairs activities and will be responsible for the development and consolidation of a network of long-term peer-to-peer relationships with a variety of key external stakeholders, including clinicians and researchers.
You will have highly developed communication skills and be responsible for generating, supporting and enhancing scientific communication between Pfizer and health care professionals. While doing so you will uphold Pfizer Australia's commitment to high standards of conduct in all its dealings with the medical profession.
Comfortable working autonomously, you will also work within cross-functional product/portfolio teams. The role participates in cross-functional medical affairs activities that support the Rare Disease portfolio, including medical-marketing support for new and existing products, provision of technical/medical/scientific input for regulatory and market access initiatives, and leading internal training of commercial partners. Within this role you will also contribute to development of the country medical and marketing brand strategy, and medical operation plans for in-line and pipeline products in the Rare Disease portfolio.
**Responsibilities in this role include:**
+ Develop and maintain expertise in subject matter knowledge in the Rare Disease portfolio to support the team to develop and define medical and marketing brand strategy.
+ Enhance scientific communication between clinicians, researchers and the Medical Affairs Department within Pfizer Australia, Global Medical Affairs and Clinical Development to position Pfizer as a scientific partner of choice. Respond to medical enquiries in a manner that meets the scientific / clinical needs of customers.
+ Actively engage in customer facing medical activities and interactions - it is expected that approximately 75% of time allocation for this role will relate to customer facing activities.
+ Facilitate research site selection, study placement and provide support to both Pfizer sponsored and investigator initiated research activities.
+ Deliver and execute the Rare Disease medical strategy.
+ Provide scientific and medical leadership in support of the marketing team in order to develop and implement local and national marketing initiatives.
+ Provide medical leadership and input in preparation of regulatory and access dossiers.
+ Review and approve promotional materials and work closely with marketing to ensure compliance with Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.
**For application you need:**
+ Relevant tertiary education - Medical degree preferred or PhD in health / life science related discipline (rare disease experience desirable) or pharmacist
+ Pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs preferred
+ Experience across relevant therapeutic areas (preferred) i.e. cardiology, endocrinology, haemophilia
+ Strong analytical, interpersonal and partnering skills.
+ Ability to understand and influence in a highly matrixed environment.
+ Ability to establish a network of key stakeholders.
+ Demonstrated strategic business planning abilities and superior customer management skills.
+ Highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).
+ Strong project management, organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Your capacity for strategic thinking, along with excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, complemented by strong presentation abilities and a flexible approach are essential for success in this role. A willingness and ability to travel frequently within Australia is essential for this role.
