Overview
This Operations Manager is responsible to supervise, coordinate, lead and participate in all matters of facility operations including but not limited to daily maintenance, event set-ups, changeovers, event coverage, and custodial services.
This role is located at the Owensboro Sportscenter , one of Owensboro’s most historic buildings, opened in 1949. The Sportscenter is a multi-purpose 5,000 seat arena that hosts graduations, concerts, sporting events, trade shows, meetings, and receptions. The arena floor has over 11,000 square feet of usable space and can be modified for basketball, concerts, rodeos, expos, banquets, and a variety of other events. The Owensboro Sportscenter is home to the TBL (The Basketball League) team, the Owensboro Thoroughbreds, the Division II Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers Men’s and Women’s Basketball of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and the Owensboro Catholic High School Aces Basketball. Responsibilities
• Provide services and supervision in custodial needs of the facility.
• Provide services and supervision in set up and operational needs of the facility.
• Coordinate and participate in preventive and regular maintenance for all facility-related equipment, HVAC, lighting, and plumbing.
• Maintains the building to Spectra standards.
• Maintain storage areas and equipment in a neat and orderly manner.
• Maintain safe, secure, and sanitary working conditions and leave work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
• Directs and supervises outside contractors/3rd party vendors.
• Ensures facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures are enforced and adhered to.
• Monitor the compliance of standard operating procedures.
• Supervise and participate in day-to-day operations of the facility.
• Serve as Manager on Duty for office and event hours coverage as required.
• Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients.
• Stand in as Event Manager for clients that require extended hours of building access.
• Periodically conducts inventory of all equipment.
• Monitor and maintain custodial supplies inventory and usage.
• Maintain all building equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Make recommendations for Capital purchases related to areas of functional responsibility.
• Assist in Operations and Events budget planning.
• Trains part-time and/ or temporary employees in orientation to the building, proper cleaning techniques and schedules, usage and conservation of supplies, operation of equipment, and safety practices.
• Ensure employees have the equipment and resources to perform the job efficiently.
• Maintain employee paperwork including attendance, payroll, disciplinary procedures, etc.
• Conduct staff briefing meetings prior to each shift in order to review and/or distribute work assignments to appropriate personnel to accurately and efficiently set-up, maintain, and tear down events.
• Assist in establishing and monitoring work performance and safety standards.
• Inspects completed set-ups, changeovers, and custodial services for conformance to standards.
• Work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Responsible for insuring that all daily and periodic tasks are completed as scheduled and according to specified quality standards.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED
• Working knowledge of operations equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, staging, retractable seating risers, basketball floors, etc.
• Working knowledge of custodial equipment including floor scrubbers and buffers, backpack vacuums, shop vacs, court cleaning equipment, and other equipment .
• Working knowledge of facility and arena operations, changeovers, set ups, maintenance and custodial services.
• Capable of working nights, weekends and holidays, as well as additional hours when needed
• Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
• Ability to meet deadlines and function in a high-pressure environment
• Forklift certification or ability to become certified within 3 months of start date
• Three years of experience performing facility operations in a sports/events venue
• Experience overseeing and directing staff in performance of conversions and custodial services.
