Full Job Description
Job Title: Sorter
Department: Recycle Plant
Reports To: Plant Manager
Summary: Sort personnel work as a quality control line by hand sorting recyclable materials and non-recyclable materials from the recycling stream. Sorters are responsible for ensuring that non-recyclable materials are removed from the recycling stream so that they are acceptable for sale to outside mills, brokers, or other end markets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Ability to distinguish between various types of recyclable materials; inspect and sort materials into piles or place in containers, bunkers, or bins according to size, type, condition, coloring, or grade.
• Pull non-recyclable items from conveyor stream, off floor, etc.
• Stack boxes and skids. Dump boxes and totes of material.
• Feed material into conveyors.
• Clean up conveyors, screens, and around the sorting line. Keep work area clean and in order.
• Adheres to Company policies and rules; promotes the Company’s safety standards; does not take unsafe risks.
• Follow appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) when operating and maintaining equipment.
• Report any worker or public safety concern and/or equipment malfunction.
• Good verbal communication skills; communicate effectively and professionally with other personnel and management.
• Ability to follow written and verbal communication.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertion including standing, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and climbing).
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures. Wear PPE as required for position.
• Maintains a positive attitude and behavior, demonstrates a feeling of pride in work, adheres to work schedule, and strives to achieve all goals.
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and/or overtime as required.

Minimum Qualifications
• Must be 18 or older.
• Must successfully complete the pre-employment screening.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate, understand, and respond to questions.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, bend, reach, pull, or listen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 50 lbs. or more using safe lifting techniques. Specific vision abilities required by this job include hand eye coordination while sorting recyclable material on moving conveyor belts.
