What you’ll be doing...
You’ll join our Network Systems team as a senior Database Administrator where you will be an integral member of a dynamic team providing database support for mission critical applications in support of major infrastructure projects such as 5G and iEN buildouts. The database team provides resident expert-level service on database offerings both on premise and within the AWS cloud. We currently support Oracle, Informix, Postgres and Cassandra with the latter two being the directional options going forward. As applications convert to newer technology, developers look to the team for guidance and to successfully get them onto the directional platforms as quickly as possible. This requires an individual who must be well-versed in all the new technology and platforms in order to determine the proper path and what would work best for each application’s specific functionality. If you are mission driven and enjoy challenging work, this is definitely the team for you.
• Install and build databases for applications. Migrate database and data from one source to another, conduct pre-run and implement.
• Work to manage releases by backdating information, validation of data post releases, troubleshoot and partner with application teams to implement successfully.
• Maintain health by addressing alerts and conducting health checks before it becomes a defect – storage capacities, query improvements, etc.
• Troubleshoot user concerns and performance issues – delegate responsibilities to identify root cause, partner with users to understand issues, engage with third party vendors if needed to bring the error to resolution.
• Conduct security patches and upgrades and complete security scans and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Define the migration strategy of applications from on premise to AWS.
• Define database direction for the individual applications by partnering with application team to assess the database needs, evaluating 3rd party products and alignment with standard operating standards, identify risk areas and determine solutions to address.
• Research new tools and methodologies in the database space.
• Define database tools, guidelines, and procedures that are complaint with security and new platforms like cloud.
• Establish standards and enforcing documentation for database administrators to ensure consistent configurations, installations, types of tools to utilize, disaster recovery standbys, etc. Important for timely maintenance, reliability, cross team training, and execution.
• Develop roadmap and coordinate tech refreshes to switch out outdate platforms, transition hardware, re-architect environment, evaluate cloud migration vs legacy hardware, evaluate operating systems.
What we’re looking for...
