Role and Responsibilities
Summary
The Software Engineering Group Leader (GL) is the managing supervisor of a Software Engineering functional group, responsible for the technical, financial, and schedule performance of their team(s).  They provide technical and programmatic leadership in the design, development, and integration of software solutions to meet complex customer needs while maintaining a business focus.  This requires a mix of technical strength, strategic vision, business acumen, interpersonal skills, and the ability to create a team environment.  These elements are applied to lead the Engineering team within a culture of engagement and high performance to achieve the successful execution of software development programs and contribute to the financial success of the business.
The technology teams reporting to this position consist of:
Tactical Systems :  Vehicle Weapon Systems; Aircraft Survivability Equipment (ASE) / Countermeasures; Weapon Modelling; Computer Generated Forces (CGF) behavior modelling, scenario management, and integration of third party systems; Electronic Warfare (EW) systems; and Weather Simulations.
Sensor Systems :  Vehicle Sensor Simulations including:  Radar; FLIR / EOIR; Electronic Surveillance Measures (ESM); Acoustic Sensors; and Magnetic Anomaly Detection (MAD).
Interoperability :  Distributed Mission Operations systems using industry standard DIS and HLA protocols.
Primary Responsibilities

• Strategic and tactical oversight of a team of Engineers and SME’s, providing technical leadership and active budget management for all assigned tasking
• Ensures work execution to achieve maximum schedule and financial performance while meeting technical requirements of internal or external customers
• Creates and maintains work plans for team members based on priorities established by the Engineering department through our SAFe / Agile processes
• Manages team priorities and tasking while serving as the single interface to program teams to limit plan disruptions and minimize task-switching by team members
• Monitors Agile process metrics and collaboratively works with team(s) to adjust execution and achieve continuous improvement
• Owner and design authority of all products and technology (CAE developed) that are managed by the group, including maintaining product roadmaps to define future needs
• Strategic technical direction for responsible technology areas, including monitoring of industry trends and technology, conference attendance, and identification of emerging technology
• Responsible for the team’s adherence to Engineering processes in the execution of their work and for maintaining the requisite level of Software Quality
• Performs all resource planning including matching skills with tasks, man-loading forecasts, staffing decisions, and coordinating with other groups for resource sharing
• Overall responsibility for team training, career planning, and mentoring of junior engineers (with support from senior team members)
• Delivers performance feedback and development guidance through regular one on one counseling for all team members, and execution of annual review processes
• Provides status and metric reporting to Engineering Management as needed
• Participates in bid and proposal activities as needed including solutioning, costing, technical writing, and cost or proposal reviews
• Support CAE USA Strategic Business Objectives and department flow-down goals
• Participates in Process Improvement Initiatives including identification of improvement opportunities
Qualifications and Education Requirements
• Bachelors’ degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematics
• Minimum of 8 years Software Engineering and/or Engineering Management experience with at least 5 years of experience in a simulation training field or related industry
• Must have a technical understanding of tactical systems, sensor systems, and interoperability concepts
• Effective leadership, motivational, and mentoring skills
• Ability to effectively manage budgets and achieve financial and schedule performance
• Strong technical acumen and ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
• Familiar with software development and integration, software lifecycle and configuration management concepts
• Robust planning and organizational skills applied to direct multiple teams with shifting priorities supporting different deliverables
• Proficient communication skills, including verbal, presentation, and written, as well as technical writing skills
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
• Existing security clearance is a plus
Security Responsibilities
Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance .  Must comply with all company and government security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form.
Work Environment
Work is performed in an environment where irritants such as noise, temperature, and lighting variations may exist, but there is little chance of injury, accident, or occupational health problems.
• Works at job activities that require sitting, standing or walking for short periods throughout the day and focused visual concentration or focused listening
• Moderate to high levels of stress, associated with technical, schedule, and customer issues are to be expected with this position.  Extended work hours and possible 2nd and 3rd shift assignments are likely to be encountered.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• Must be able to perform normal office duties (e.g. sitting for long periods at a desk)
• Must be able to travel CONUS/OCONUS via car and airplane
• Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator
