CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE
This exempt supervisory position is responsible for all aspects of the Construction Division by emphasizing profitable and high-quality construction and enhancements work, operational efficiency, and exemplary customer service; performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Directs all efforts associated with profit and loss within the Construction Division
• Plans, develops, and leads all strategic initiatives associated with construction and enhancements projects
• Designs short and long-range goals and tactical objectives
• Broadens the active marketing campaign of the Construction Division to preserve existing accounts, engage new clients, and increase market share in the industry
• Cultivates partnerships with existing and prospective clients
• Attends meetings, makes presentations, and represents the company as a technical expert in the field of landscape construction and enhancements
• Negotiates service contracts; produces annual departmental budget
• Collaborates with upper management on the strategic direction of the Construction Division
• Ensures compliance with all company-wide policies, programs, and processes
• Holds self and staff accountable for achieving challenging goals
• Reviews reports and generates entrepreneurial recommendations
• Participates actively in trade and professional organizations
• Performs pre- and actual job site inspections
• Performs basic job cost and budgeting tasks
• Adheres to company reporting methods; reviews, revises, and approves paperwork, billings, and purchasing documents
• Ensures all staff adhere to operational, ethical, safety, and administrative policies and procedures; selects, develops, motivates, and trains staff
• Oversees safety meetings; supervises staff
• Maintains equipment and tool inventories; approves time cards; reads elevations and blueprints accurately
• Communicates well with others
• Interprets all aspects of construction plans to ensure compliance with codes
• Meets with architects, vendors, and inspectors & makes recommendations to customers
• Reads and understands contracts
• Attends budget reviews
• Conducts necessary job documentation
• Completes all paperwork accurately & provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and company staff in a courteous and efficient manner
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
Knowledge Areas : Principles, practices, and methods associated with construction, enhancements, and business management; proven techniques that satisfy gross margin goals, overall profitability, and other key performance metrics; budget management, monitoring, and cost control techniques; strategic and operational planning, human resource programs, and continuous process improvement; operational reports; Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office suite and company software applications; administrative procedures, operational decision making, and supervision; safety, human resources, and Cal-OSHA; motivation, coaching, and training; profit and loss statements, business trends, and sales statistics; local environment, business directories, and competitor accounts to identify prospective clients; company customer service objectives, norms, and strategies; safe work practices involving equipment, basic mathematics; chemicals, contracts, and building codes; landscape plans and blue prints; walk-through process; project planning and management; time management; and landscape code compliance.
Skills : Manage all aspects (e.g., schedule labor, order materials, administrative paperwork) of multiple projects; assign, organize, and track every construction and enhancements job to ensure profitability and customer satisfaction; develop, implement and monitor the annual divisional strategic plan, operating budget, and procedural controls to meet financial objectives; manage the numbers while leading a team to improved performance; perform basic job cost estimates; conduct industry-wide research; read and interpret Income Statements; lead a diverse workforce across multiple operational and support functions; work within the Windows Operating System and the Microsoft Office suite; communicate effectively in verbal and written form; consistently make high-impact decisions; persuade and negotiate with others; build and maintain effective relationships with vendors, partners and company staff; interpret landscape plans, contracts, and procedures; meeting, time, and project management, safety practices, and site visits; supervision; work independently; basic mathematics; and provide excellent customer service by ensuring client needs are fulfilled in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion by demonstrating courtesy, efficiency, and professionalism.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An example of the preferred education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and competencies for this position includes: at least five (5) years of professional experience involving business management, operational leadership, and strategic planning in the landscape construction/enhancements industry

Working Conditions Work is predominately outdoors, exposed to varying temperatures, weather conditions, and noise levels, exposure to dust, pesticides, herbicides, grease, oils, dust, fumes, and electrical currents.
Background Investigation: Incumbents must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates may be subject to a background investigation and/or drug test.
Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification serve an introductory period of three months.
