Job Summary:
The Lean Field Services Director II will lead the Lean Field Services team globally. Will be responsible for field execution and overall culture change through Lean Leadership. Will be accountable for realizing true lean on customer sites worldwide, focused on Leadership Standard Work, Lean layout, material flow, visual management, heijunka and workplace organization 5S. Will be responsible to build the global strategy for Lean for on-site execution, global standardization and regional deployment of lean programs, focused on both operational execution pressures as well as technology cost pressures; driving remediating actions in partnership with the Value Stream leaders. Will develop and execute strategies to drive cost reduction across field services activities, with a targeted cost out by technology and/or region.
Responsibilities:
• Own the lean for field service standard and application including: Leadership Standard Work, Lean layout, material flow, visual management, heijunka and workplace organization 5S
• Drive Lean for Field Services concept on every outage globally, starting with core outages and moving to each site.
• Drive Lean culture change throughout the global business, acting as an example through Lean Leadership.
• Partner with Region GMs to lead regional staff to drive lean for field services into each region, focusing on improvement to cost and OTD.
• Drive strategy for Productivity Programs, Projects and Tooling to address Cost and OTD pressures both globally and regionally specific in partnership with value stream leaders and regional project operations.
• Drive utilization of Project Controls data to Define, Analyze, Improve and Control cost pressures related to the specific impact categories; aligning cost out programs to each; ultimately using this data to improve site execution
• Partner with the regions, risk/productivity and engineering teams to lead global implementation strategy of standards, including field validation, communication, training, standardization and feedback
• Implement affiliate (APM/OSS) manpower optimization strategies onsite driving daily lean management
• Collaborate with Operations Excellence/Productivity team to drive visibility, ownership and accountability for the sustainability of solutions in the field; including pushing the penetration % for industrialized programs, implementing standards and feedback ideas.
• Lead development of the “next generation” of outage execution productivity ideas, in partnership with Gas Power Product and Engineering leadership and feedback to the Value Stream leaders.
• Lead lean methodology strategy for on-site execution, including, Lean Action Workout Planning, Execution and After-Action Report and development and deployment of 5S, Playbooks, etc.
• Lead ownership of the Operations Hoshin Kanri, development, updates and organizational progress
• Drive utilization of Project Controls data to Define, Analyze, Improve and Control cost pressures related to the specific impact categories; aligning cost out programs to each
• Drive “Pit Crew” concept to the regions and develop Pit Crew playbook and partnership with Value Stream leaders on “breakthrough” execution.
• Develop Productivity Playbooks in coordination with Value Stream Leaders focusing on enhancement, utilization and soliciting feedback for improvement/incorporation into the event management team tools and Productivity Rhythm.
• Partner with Operations Excellence/Productivity Leader to develop a specific cost out target for this organization during target setting
• Identify and implement solutions to optimize 3rd party service offerings while driving costs reductions through automation, standardization, and/or remote service offerings
• Travel required
• May be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our FieldCore vision and align with our organization’s core values.
Required Qualifications & Experience :
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field with minimum five years of Field Engineer or Project management experience; additional years of experience in power generation can be substituted for degree
• 12+ years progressive experience and demonstrated success/knowledge
• 7+ years managing and developing multi-discipline teams, preferably with international reach across multiple service types
• 6+ years of specialized/industry experience
• Strong experience in power generation and field services experience in Heavy Duty Gas and/or Steam Turbine maintenance
• Experience with Primavera and Job Cost Estimators required
• English proficiency required
Desired Characteristics:
• Master’s degree preferred
• Experience leading a team in a matrixed environment
• Experience with lean methodologies
• Experience leading outage productivity tooling and developing cost remediation projects and programs
• Excellent communication and management skills, strong interpersonal and influencing skills; ability to work with all levels of employees
• Former Customer Service Leader, Service Manager or Outage Manager
• Expert in power generation outage maintenance
• Strong project planning and organizational skills
• Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
• Very results-oriented
• Work well both independently and in a team environment, including in remote work settings
• Ability to travel, including internationally, 10% of the time
