Job Specifications
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have a valid state of residence driver’s license.
• Successful completion of a thorough background check.
• High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree in related field or four years’ experience with direct childcare in a residential or mental health setting preferred.
• Maintains required annual training as applicable per education level. Additional training is required and provided for those without a degree or experience.
• Is trained in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) Emergency Safety Physical Interventions (ESPI). Training provided by agency. Remains current on ESPI review. Is willing to use ESPI when necessary in keeping with our policy.
• Is trained in CPR and First Aid. Remains current. Training is provided by agency.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities (not all-inclusive):
• Teaching appropriate behavior.
• Acting as a positive role model (i.e.: appropriate language, dress, and social skills).
• Creating and participating in recreational activities.
• Supporting treatment plan implementation (includes knowledge of client treatment issues, teaching skills to improve functioning, facilitating weekly 1:1 mentoring).
• Providing knowledge to improve life skills.
• Provide close supervision of clients, observing and responding to changes using positive reinforcement and appropriate techniques to de-escalate negative behaviors.
• Assuming responsibility for a variety of campus activities, including but not limited to: driving an agency vehicle, transporting clients, preparing clients for visits, clothing or supply shopping.
• Willing and capable of physically managing children when they are a danger to themselves or others (training will be provided).
• Encouraging a safe and healthy lifestyle (i.e.: meal preparation, routine chore supervision, laundry, cleaning tasks).
• Works cooperatively with all staff.
• Communicates all pertinent information to supervisor and the treatment team.
• Accountable for proper documentation of tasks, notes and regular program checks.
• Assures that clients are aware of all safety procedures relative to hazards and emergencies.
• Ensures that routine health care and first aid (per policy and procedures) are provided to each client.
• Assures proper dispensation and documentation of medication (training provided).
• Attends all required meetings and trainings.
• Communicates effectively with all staff.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
