The Senior Accountant – Inventory will perform various volume and costing-related activities relating to raw materials, WIP and finished goods for the Mosaic North American Business Units.  They will be responsible for leading the monthly physical inventory process for the MBS Accounting team; performing costing / valuation for Mosaic’s inventories, performing significant financial analysis on both balance sheet and income statement activity; and reviewing and analyzing other costing scenarios, including consideration of plant underutilization, lower of cost or net realizable value, and profit in ending inventory (PII). In addition, this role will lead the coordination of various Inventory SOX controls for North America and will act as a primary contact with both internal and external auditors on related Inventory audit requests and analysis.
What will you do?
• Lead the preparation and review of various monthly inventory reconciliations and rollforwards. Research and resolve inventory variances and issues with business partners in Supply Chain.
• Lead the monthly physical inventory process for the MBS Accounting team, which includes partnering with the third-party surveyors and Operations Finance teams.
• Review and analysis of monthly inventory surveys and related adjustments, which includes reviewing physical to book volume inventory reconciliations, and analyze related adjustments in accordance with GAAP.
• Drive the understanding and analysis of inventory-related activity and balances within both the balance sheet and income statement, which will include trend analyses as well as period over period.
• Lead the preparation, analysis and recording of various costing / valuation related entries, including profit in inventory (PII) calculations, a complex process involving significant estimates and judgment and requires attention to detail to avoid material misstatements in the financial statements. Perform complex financial analysis on both balance sheet and income statement activity
• Assess occurrences of plant underutilization and lower of cost or net realizable value, which occur infrequently. Review and analyze other costing scenarios, including consideration of plant underutilization, lower of cost or net realizable value, and profit in ending inventory (PEI), and preparing and posting journal entries as appropriate.
• Perform various financial and accounting analysis required to support Balance Sheet reconciliations and internal/external audit request.  Coordinate with internal and external auditors on inventory-related audit requests and analysis.
What do you need for this role?
• Bachelor's Degree required, major in Accounting or Finance, or Business with emphasis in Accounting or Finance required
• 5+ years of accounting or finance experience
• Excellent understanding and familiarity with GAAP and the ability to apply these principles in practice
• Strong working knowledge of financial and accounting concepts and practices
• Broad understanding of internal controls
• Preferred Public accounting experience and inventory accounting experience
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) with advanced Excel skills
• Experience/knowledge of SAP
• Experience with Microsoft Access
• Experience with Business Intelligence / Reporting tools
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead through influence and network
