The Therapy Administrative Assistant is to assist in physical and nutritional management services and to provide support services as prescribed by the Inter-Disciplinary Support Team (IDT).
Responsibilities
Assists with training and in servicing of staff in physical management, including body mechanics for staff, proper transfer techniques, therapeutic positioning and gross motor activities in coordination with the Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), Speech Therapist (ST) and Registered Dietitian (RD).
Implements in-services, monitoring and problem-solving system regarding ongoing physical management services to individuals in coordination with management staff and Physical Therapist including:
• Use of safe body mechanics
• Use of appropriate physical assistance and transfer techniques
• Therapeutic positioning of individuals
• Individual and general positioning equipment
• Passive and active gross motor activities
• Gross motor equipment
Trains staff to understand and run programs in New Employee Orientation (NEO) and annual training.
• Assists in development and revision of positioning schedule, as needed.
• Acts as liaison with all therapists (PT, OT, ST, RD).
• Assists in development of 24-hour schedules as needed.
Assists Physical Therapist in development of initial photographic positioning instructions, reviewing instructions and following through on updating instructions as needed, and every six months at a minimum.
Implements programs as deemed necessary by therapists.
Monitors programs for efficacy and compliance, and for revisions. Follows monitoring schedule.
Maintains an inventory, including a description of current condition of all wheel chairs and adaptive equipment. Maintains a description of supports, general positioning equipment and gross motor equipment. All updated annually at a minimum.
Monitors and assists with Physical Therapy/Active Gross Motor programs and provides quarterly progress notes on program goals.
Initiates and makes minor maintenance/repair on manual wheelchairs and other positioning equipment as needed.
• Assists with the implementation of the Nutritional Management Programs for residents:
• Monitors staff to ensure nutritional management procedures are always followed.
• Trains staff on mealtime techniques as determined by the Occupational Therapist (OT).
• Ensures dining plans are updated as determined by the OT and IDT.
• Reports mealtime situations requiring intervention to the OT and QIDP/Rehabilitation Coordinator.
• Assists with the implementation of Physical/Nutritional Management Training following OT and facility guidelines.
• Maintains inventory of adaptive equipment and other equipment used for motor programs or splinting.
• Understands and adheres to all policies and procedures.
• Reports instance of abuse in accordance with specified guidelines in the abuse policy.
• Attends scheduled training and in-services sessions and demonstrates learned competencies.
• Attends Rehabilitation Plan meetings, representing therapists’ and residents’ programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or GED.
· One year’s experience providing physical management services for individuals with severe physical disabilities.
· Valid Florida drivers license and safe driving record.
· Pass a criminal background screening and remain eligible through the Agency for Health Care Administration.
· Pass a substance abuse test as a condition of employment and remain drug free in accordance with the company policies.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
