Controller/Budget Director
Kentucky Wesleyan College , a private , liberal arts college with a long-standing reputation for quality and academic excellence , is seeking applications for a full -time Controller/Budget Director to join our community and lead the institutional budget function .
Major Responsibilities
• P roduc ing accurate and timely financial statements using campus software.
• Lead ing the process of budgeting, forecasting, a nd fiscal reporting .
• Planning and monitoring capital expenditures and fixed assets.
• Accounting for endowments and restricted funds, fund accounting .
• Maintains awareness of changes and trends in higher education business, operations, regulations , and audit practices and recommend ing policy and procedural revisions .
• Manag ing the year-end financial closing and annual audit process as requested.
• Work ing with external auditors to complete the College’s IRS 990 tax return.
• Post ing journal entries and reconciling bank statements as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Five years of experience in a similar professional accounting and supervisory position .
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), auditing standards, management practices, applicable federal and state laws for higher education institutions, grants, contracts, and pledges.
• Strong working knowledge and experience in complex business operations, budget management, business policies, and organizational business strategies.
• Analytic and critical thinker to identify organization-wide risks and propose strategies to reduce or eliminate risks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with special aptitude for interpreting and communicating financial data to others from a non-financial background.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
