As a Principal Software Engineer at Humana you will contribute to meaningful projects, interact with other team members, be exposed to DH&As business operations and work cross functionally with other departments. In addition, you will design and implement enterprise level software applications based on business requirements, while also providing strategic advice and guidance to the software development teams. As such, this position requires broad, advanced technical experience and expertise. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities + Lead the system design and implementation of next generation of clinical rule engine. + Oversees testing and debugging. Lead the development of automated testing. + Lead the development of efficient clinical rule language that is simple and flexible. + Gather and understand requirements from clinical rule authors and other stakeholders. + Review and gain deep understanding of different types of clinical rules and complexity of clinical quality measures + Design the engine for both batch and real-time process + Design and develop high efficiency process for adding new data sources + Design and develop rule authoring tool + Evaluate commercial and open source rule engine + Review peers' feedback and makes necessary adjustments and/or recommendations to resolve complex software related issues. + Works with senior executives to develop and drive segment or enterprise-wide technology strategies. + Coach junior software developer by advocating for best practices. + Work closely with product, data platform and solution delivery teams. Key Candidate Qualifications + Bachelor's degree required; Master's or Doctorate's degree preferred + Extensive technical experience (ideally, 10 or more years) in the following areas: object oriented analysis and design, Java development, web application development, cloud technologies, distributed computing, large data management, and relational databases + Established track record of technical leadership + Demonstrated technical achievement within an engineering team to build, deploy and support a software application at scale + Extensive knowledge and experience in system architecture/design + Ability to research and influence technical solutions for scalability and performance needs + Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex ideas and technologies to non-technical audiences + Experience working in an agile environment + Strong experience with database schema design and query optimization + Deep understanding of software development and testing life cycles. + Passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences + Experience in healthcare IT environment is preferred.
