Hillsborough –Pinellas Area Based, La Mesa Boricua, Community Organizer Position:
This is a consultant position based on the availability of funding.
The ideal candidate would have a passion for people and racial justice, strong relational skills, and the capacity to build bridges across Puerto Rican organizations and leaders in the area and Florida.
This position will focus on reaching out and developing relationships with Puerto Ricans in Tampa /Pinellas, and training and equipping people within those groups and leaders to create and move the agenda of La Mesa Boricua of Florida.
• This position is full time with significant evening and weekend work. The candidate must have access to reliable transportation. Starting salary is competitive, depending on experience.
Skills and Orientations:
• Ability and experience working creating community unity
• Strong relational skills and ability to connect, engage and inspire Puerto Rican community members across multiple demographics including; religion, race, gender, age, and class
• Capacity to think strategically and analytically about social, economic, cultural, and political issues
• Strong desire to learn and openness to challenge others
• Ability to work as part of a strong staff team as well as independently
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs; i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
• Relevant previous organizing experience (Community, Labor, Voter/Civic) a plus
Written and oral Spanish language fluency.
• Other Prefered skill: Experience of living or working in Latinx or API immigrant communities.
Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Conduct 8 – 10 one on one meetings each week with Puerto Rican leaders and other community leaders
• Help leadership, build powerful and active local organizing teams or Mesitas.
• Provide ongoing leadership coaching and training to leaders
• Attend local and statewide events and professional development training
• Host Mesitas and leaders monthly meetings
• Meet with local and state elected officials
• Routine requirements (weekly and expense reports, staff calls, etc.).
