The Core Staff Scientist Sr # Structural Biology is responsible for oversight and management of the SBC Facility. Duties include but are not limited to overseeing and managing the daily activities of the laboratory, data analysis and management, providing technical information and experimental design, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. The Core Staff Scientist Sr is responsible for establishing and optimizing procedures for large-scale protein expression and purification, crystallization and X-Ray structure determination of proteins and protein-ligand complexes. The ideal Candidate will have: Ph.D. Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics or in a core related field of study and 5+ years of Postdoctoral research in Structural Biology OR Master of Science degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics or in a core related field of study and with 15 years of science related experience and at least 7 years of experience in core specific applications# Experience in macromolecular X-ray crystallography, knowing how to process x-ray data and refine structural models is required Must have a track record with publications in peer reviewed journals (1st author preferred) and published structures in the protein data bank.# Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques used in biological/chemical research, analysis and testing. Ability to conduct biochemical and biophysical research experiments and analysis using scientific methods and techniques. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills Ability to carry positive interactions with a diverse group of research staff inside and outside the institution Proactive attitude in a service provision Experience managing/mentoring others (students, postdocs, technicians) Effective written and verbal communication skills Highly desirable qualifications: Experience in an academic environment is preferred, however industrial experience is acceptable. Experience in a customer-oriented service laboratory/core facility is highly preferred. Experience in cryo electron microscopy is desired.
