General Description
This is an OPS Licensed Practical Nurse position responsible for collection, identification and packaging of COVID-19 specimens for transport to designated laboratories. Ensure all activities surrounding response to a COVID positive case are conducted. Works as a team member in the Testing team to meet and exceed established expectations for this initiative.
Specific Job Responsibilities of the OPS Registered Nurse • Ensures flow of patient labels to specimen collection station
• Verifies patient identity prior to specimen collection (name, DOB, patient location inside vehicle)
• Alerts appropriate team member of special circumstances (patient is a minor, does not speak English, etc.)
• Alert on-site RN Lead of any patients needing further assessment
• Ensures appropriate specimen packing
• Ensures/verifies collected specimens are packed with ice
• Count and reports to RN Lead/Collection Team Lead on specimen collection for the event
• Ensures specimens are picked up by established deadline
• Ensures appropriate disposal of biohazard waste
• Monitors specimens refrigerator temperature
Qualifications • Associate degree in nursing (ADN)
• Ability to make decisions
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
• Ability to handle face-to-face public interactions with potentially frustrated, emotional and/or uncooperative customers
• Ability to demonstrate cultural and diversity competence
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others
• Ability to follow instructions
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
• Ability to operate commonly used office equipment such as computers, printers, fax machine, label maker, paper shredder
• Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, MS Teams)
Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements • Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464
• Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR certification
• Valid Florida Drivers license
Other Job-related requirements • Immunization screening upon hire
• Annual TB screening
• Working hours: A). Daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, B) Weekends and evenings, C) 29 or more hours per week
• Have reliable transportation to use for work related purposes and to claim travel reimbursement
• In the event of an emergency the Health Department is required to perform emergency functions. May be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in a special needs shelter, Red Cross shelter, Emergency Operations Command Center, or to perform other emergency duties including, but limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural
