Additional Information about Program
BluePearl is a busy referral and emergency practice in Tampa, Florida. The hospital has been in operation since 1996. Our 17,000 square foot facility operates 24-hours a day. We welcomed our 24th intern class in June 2020.
We have boarded specialists in Cardiology (2), Emergency/Critical Care (3), Dermatology (1), Internal Medicine (6), Neurology (1), Radiology (2), Surgery (4), Ophthalmology (3), Oncology (1), ABVP-Avian (1), along with a team of experienced emergency clinicians. Residency trained clinicans in limited practice include Oncology (2), and Dermatology (1). Additionally, we have residents in Emergency/Critical Care (3), Cardiology (1) and Surgery (2), along with specialty internships focused in Ophthalmology, Avian/Exotics, Surgery and Oncology.
Interns rotate through Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Surgery, Neurology, and Emergency Medicine in typically three to four week blocks for a total of approximately 15-16 rotations for the year in total. Emergency rotations will be at our Tampa as well as our Brandon and Clearwater, Florida locations. Elective rotations are offered in Cardiology, Oncology, Dermatology, Radiology, Avian/Exotics, and Ophthalmology. Additional surgery experience can be arranged through local shelters that welcome the additional assistance. Special consideration will be given to those individuals requesting additional time for an elective of special interest in the hospital, if possible.
Our diagnostic treatment capabilities are extensive. The facility has twelve examination rooms, three surgery suites, a separate ICU unit, two radiology suites featuring Digital Radiography, ultrasound room, in-house Linear Accelerator, on-site MRI and CT Scanner.
Education opportunities include Emergency Medicine lecture series, in-house specialty department lectures, Radiology Rounds, Medicine Rounds, Morbidity/Mortality Rounds, Emergency/Critical Care Rounds, Cardiology Rounds, Avian/Exotic Rounds and Intern Grand Rounds. Interns can also participate in CE offered in our community.
Benefits include a license and CE stipend, uniform allowance, 10 days PTO, and professional liability insurance (PLIT) including license defense protection (AVMA membership required) and VIN membership. Those enrolled in a BluePearl internship will be able to participate in the BluePearl health, dental and eye insurance plans.
The internship at BluePearl Tampa is an outstanding learning experience. We are seeking individuals who are self-motivated and would possibly like to pursue a residency in the future. We have been very successful in fostering our interns to residency programs in Anesthesia, Avian/Exotics, Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency/Critical Care, Laboratory Animal Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, and Surgery in our programs as well as programs all over the United States.
Aside from clinical rotations, rotating interns will be required to actively participate in didactic rounds, journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds, and other learning opportunities. The successful candidate will possess qualities including excellent communication skills, willingness to learn, and the ability to work well with a team.
