The Florida Department of Health is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.
Health Educator Consultant (HEC)
The incumbent in this position will serve in the Office of Health Equity and will manage public health accreditation responsibilities and public health programs, address health inequities through partnerships and collaboration with other agencies, and support grant writing and publication needs for the Community Health Division. Duties will include participating on internal councils, committees and workgroups, participation in local health initiatives, developing health education communication materials, as well as preparing grant applications, manuscripts, reports and other written materials.
Responsibilities may include:
• Managing public health accreditation responsibilities for the agency
• Participating on internal councils, committees and workgroups
• Preparing posters, manuscripts, reports and grant applications
• Coordinating local partners for public health initiatives
• Assisting with analyzing, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating activities associated with public health programs and initiatives
• Position activities may occur before, during or after normal working hours and/or on weekends or holidays
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in public health, health education, or related field from an accredited institution
• At least 1 year of experience working in a public health setting
• Strong written communication skills with experience preparing posters, manuscripts and grant applications
• Experience bringing together diverse stakeholders for a project or initiative
• Experience using IT applications, including Publisher, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• Valid Florida driver’s license
Other Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience working on public health accreditation
• Experience using graphic design for public health communication
• Experience with statistical analysis, including use of SAS and STATA
• Must be able to travel to all areas of Hillsborough County for meetings using own vehicle
