GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for direct and indirect patient care under the directions of the physicians, physician's assistants, or registered nurse. Position is also responsible for ensuring efficient patient services by assisting the provider staff, complying with established policies and procedures, OSHA policies and compliance, and CLIA compliance. Assures patient and office confidentiality. Performs other medical duties as assigned. Hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
1. Provides general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. 2. Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares list of medical supplies needed. Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients. 3. Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Dispenses medication as directed. Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness. 4. Ensures appointment preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriation information. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. 5. Maintains/reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results. 6. Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. 7. Maintains patient confidentiality.
DUTIES:
COMMUNICATION VERBAL:
1. Answer phone and field messages from patients regarding patient care.
2. Convene with the Physician regarding: (a) phone calls; (b) medicine; (c) patient instructions.
3. Calling patients with instructions regarding (a) medicine; (b) follow-up appointments; (c) lab work, etc.
4. Calling (a) drug stores; (b) laboratory; (c) other physicians for referral; (d) social services, human resources, or other ancillary medical assistants to help patients make proper connection for treatment (i.e., . Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Home Health Organizations, Hospice, Medical Supply Companies, etc.).
COMMUNICATION WRITEN:
1. Organization of charts (i.e., making sure that the chart organization is maintained, occasionally audited).
2. Sorting labs: Making sure that all lab work is brought to the provider’s attention and followed up appropriately.
3. Sorting referrals/consults: Making sure that all old records—Next Gen—and or letters have been properly dealt with.
4. Prescriptions: Making sure that all treatments are filed neatly and chronologically as indicated.
5. Flow charts: Making sure all flow charts are kept current.
6. Chart forms: Making sure that all chart forms are kept current and well stocked (i.e., progress note sheet or medicine referral sheet).
7. Follow-up with any labs and in-patient corresponds appropriate (i.e., NextGen,)
8. Coordinate any scheduling changes or practice management software needs through the provider and management.
9. Pre-authorizing any medicine or diagnostic testing corresponds (i.e., insurance, medicare, drug programs etc.).
PATIENT TRIAGE AND ASSESSMENT:
1. Making sure office patient flow is maintained.
2. Patients are to be brought back to examination room in a timely manner.
3. Should a break in flow occur, patients are to be notified of any compensation to be made (i.e., should the patient reschedule or wait).
4. Vitals are taken and noted in chart.
5. Phone triage and call back patients by the end of the day
6. Chief complaint noted.
7. Urgency of patient request noted (i.e., very sick patients are dealt with first, regardless of appointment).
8. Patient instructions are to be guided and assisted.
· All laboratory test
· Making referrals (i.e., Social Services, Physical Therapy, and other health professionals.
· Patient teaching of therapy regarding diabetes, diet, etc.
· Prescription/ renewals are to be written and signed by Physician.
· Pre-authorizing medicine through private/state insurance agencies.
· Follow-up instructions reviewed.
EXAM ROOM MAINTENCE:
1. Maintain integrity of exam rooms.
2. Make sure rooms are clean and orderly after each patient.
3. New paper on exam tables after each patient.
4. Inventory of all exam/test room supplies maintained:
· Medical instruments
· Other injectables
· Garbage bags for OSHA disposables
· Kleenex
· Paper towels, soap, etc.
· All surgical instruments sterilized after each use.
· Room prepped as appropriated for surgical procedures.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
