About the Role:
The Principal directs and coordinates educational, administrative, and counseling activities for the Florida Autism Center of Excellence. The Principal demonstrates the Florida Principal Standards, serves as the instructional leader, and develops and evaluates educational programs to ensure conformance to state, national, and school board standards. The Principal also develops relationships within the autism community always with our vision in mind: helping students reach their highest potential.
What you’ll do:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by management.
* Oversees, either directly or through subordinates, the daily academic operations and activities of the school, including academic and behavioral staff, curriculum and student outcomes.
* Establishes, implements and reports upon performance goals for academic and behavioral programs and staff in alignment with the school’s goals. Reports upon performance against goals as required.
* Maximizes efficiency and effectiveness of academic activities within budgetary guidelines without compromising quality of service by consistently monitoring and continuously improving procedures, methods, and techniques. Reports upon academic finances as required.
* Supports the admissions process by meeting with prospective parents when necessary, answering ad hoc queries during recruitment and conducting tours with candidate families. Ultimately determines appropriateness of a candidate for admission, and their classroom assignment.
* Develops and maintains relationships with independent educational consultants, high school guidance counselors and other educational professionals through direct contact and participation in professional events and gatherings.
* Collaborates closely with the Administrative Team regarding interviewing, hiring, training and retaining academic and behavioral employees; planning, assigning, and directing their work; appraising their performance; rewarding and disciplining these employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems in regard to them.
* Conducts meetings to keep academic and behavioral staff well informed and maintain effective communication between staff and management. Collaborates with the Administration Team in leading school staff meetings. Stresses accountability to ensure that staff are focused on achieving the school’s goals.
* Approves purchases within the approved academic and behavioral services budgets, in accordance with the school’s procurement policy.
* Conducts in-classroom teacher observations, and provides constructive coaching and feedback regarding same.
* Prepares and presents academic and behaviorally oriented topics at board meetings. Examples may include progress toward IEP goals; curriculum recommendations; number, trends and causes of restraints; innovative ideas for the classroom and plans for testing or adopting them; etc.
* Collaborates with the Administrative Team and the Board of Directors in regard to strategic, marketing and operational initiatives as well as capital and operating budgeting.
* Assures the facilitation of ongoing, effective, open communication with respect to student progress reporting and parent communications about same. Provides final approval to proposed student Behavioral Improvement Plans.
* Develops effective community relationships for the school by participating in ongoing collaboration and communication with applicable stakeholders, educating the community about the school’s academic services and participating in appropriate community activities and civic groups.
* Compiles, prepares, and distributes reports and communications as required by regulators or the board.
* Assures maintenance and confidentiality of student academic and behavioral records.
* Ensures compliance with standard operating procedures in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
* Promotes and maintains a safe working environment by ensuring appropriate academic and behavioral staff training, and their consistent compliance with all established safety rules and protocols.
* Manages HR responsibilities typical for overseeing direct reports, such as participating in interviews for academic and behavioral personnel, making the final hiring decision on such applicants, conducting performance evaluations in a timely manner and as scheduled by the school’s administrator, developing and overseeing implementation of performance improvement plans for academic and behavioral personnel and the like.

Our Perfect Candidate
Education and Experience:
* Master’s Degree in Education Leadership or equivalent (additional training in Applied Behavioral Analysis preferred)
* A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, working with individuals with severe disabilities and challenging behaviors in a classroom setting or in a behavioral training program
* Must have at least 5 years of supervisory experience and have a good working
* Florida School Principal Certification required
* BCBA certification highly desirable
