Medical Assistant Job Description
The Patient Care Associate (MA) provides administrative and clinical assistance for the medical practice under the direction of providers, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs), and Registered Nurses (RNs). This medical assistant will be working in optical area.
Medical Assistant Job Responsibilities (This list not inclusive of all duties assigned)
The right candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:
· Professionally and courteously interact with patients while obtaining and updating patient records, medical history and personal data.
· Communicate effectively with the patient and physician alike regarding patient’s status.
· Demonstrate confidentiality and safeguard all patient-related information and medical facility operational data.
· Prepare patient and treatment rooms for examinations.
· Performing vision and diagnostic tests
· Inventory and order medical supplies and materials.
· Clean, sterilize and assist physician with proper instruments and equipment.
· Assess patient’s vital signs, administer injections or treatments, draw and collect blood, and perform routine laboratory tests.
· Collect, label and arrange transportation for laboratory specimen in accordance to American Care policy and procedures.
· Assist with minor in-office procedures, such as but not limited to: suturing, suture removal, catheter placement and removal, and gynecological examinations.
· Operate Electrocardiograph (EKG) and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic test or contacting medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests.
· Have an extensive familiarity with medical terminology, healthcare legislation and standards, and patient privacy.
· Understand and follow applicable Federal and Florida State laws and regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with American Care policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and protect patient privacy and security.
Medical Assistant Qualifications
· High School diploma or equivalent.
· Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred.
· Bilingual preferred (Spanish and English)
· Prior 1-3 years administrative or healthcare experience in clinical or community based setting.
· Must be computer literate with working knowledge of patient documentation.
· Ability to work well with others and must be responsive to conflicting demands and deadlines.
· Must be detail oriented with the ability to multitask.
