The Ultrasound Technologist p rovides ultrasound services to patients as ordered by physicians and follows established standards and practices under the direction of a Radiologist.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in recognizing and identifying potential and actual patient problems, collecting accurate data and implementing the patient’s Plan of Care in accordance with department/unit standards.
• Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect.
• Prioritizes patient care activities based on accurate patient information and staff capabilities.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the specific patient population of the department.
• Utilizes restraint with appropriate justification and documentation with regard to patient safety.
• Evaluates patient’s response to the Plan of Care, communicates to members of the health care team and implements necessary changes to care.
• Demonstrates awareness of responsibility and accountability for completion of assignments and delivery of safe, effective and appropriate care in a timely and accurate manner.
• Reports patient safety issues/errors timely; demonstrates compliance with hospital patient safety initiatives and policies.
• Conduct reflects “Putting Patients First” while performing job duties.
• Demonstrates awareness and respect to the patient, family and/or significant other as an individual and family unit (identifies cultural and religious needs, language barriers, physical and psychological limitations and education limitations, etc.).
• Serves as an advocate for patients, family and significant others in regards to decisions affecting the Plan of Care.
• Verbalizes the process for resolution of ethical dilemmas in the facility.
• Identifies and documents patient, family and significant other education needs in collaboration with other disciplines and implements initial and on-going education relevant to these needs.
• Familiar with the safety requirements for operating ultrasound equipment and assists with the orientation and education of staff within the environment

• High school graduate plus college or technical training
• ARDMS (AB or OB/GYN) registered; ARDMS (RVT) required within 6 months if not currently held
• American Heart Association certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• One year of post-graduate experience in an acute-care hospital setting preferred
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds/carry 25 pounds
