Job Description:
The R&D Product Development Manager is responsible to understand and lead project assignments.  The primary goal is to rapidly develop new products and/or creating fundamental understandings to help new Daramic separators improve lead acid battery performance.
• Leads project teams with local or global cross-functional members for development of materials and new products for business results.
• Manages electrochemical laboratory testing/experiments supporting Marketing, Manufacturing, Technical Service or other R&D needs; managing safety, schedules, OPEX, CAPEX and escalating any issues as necessary.
• Develops new or improved electrochemical test procedures for cells or batteries, and coordinating with any related AK teams or labs as needed.
• Makes good use of appropriate statistical methods for data analysis, including the use of statistics in the design of experiments.
• Communicates clearly with team members, management, customers, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
• Applies Voice of the Customer and Business Case information in developing NPD projects.
• Manages projects within Stage Gate process guidelines.
• Travels domestically and internationally, estimated at ≤ 15%
• Effectively uses in MS PowerPoint, Excel and Word and has excellent oral communication skills.
• Flexible and willing to accept or assume new responsibilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Sedentary Work
General office environment.  Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time.  Lighting and temperature is adequate.  Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard equipment available. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount to force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Education, Experience, and skills
Education :                              Prefer Ph.D. degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields, with specialization in Electrochemistry or Battery Materials
Professional experience :         At least 11+ years for BS, 8+ years for MS, or 6+ years for PhD
Communications: Interpersonal skills that build positive relationships and influence others within Technology and across organizations.  Actively listens and is able to interact with all levels of the business from senior leaders to working teams.
Languages :                              English
Skills : Leadership : Capable of influencing decision making with or without authority, facilitating groups with diverse perspectives and bringing teams together.
Problem Solving : Demonstrated aptitude for troubleshooting; able to apply disciplined methodology for root cause analysis and to find innovative solutions that mitigate risk and create sustainable solutions.

Coaching :  Competent to provide feedback, instruction, support and guidance for change management and developing others.
